PROJECT FAMILIES
Sister Janet carefully matches NDNU participants in the Service
Learning Project with wonderful families in Cerro de Cuatro where the
summer camp takes place. All participants live within walking distance
from the school. In the evenings, families invite each other to visit
and share special events. Each family is a little different, and each
family is very special. Here is one of the families that hosted the
NDNU project in summer, 2006:

Tomasa's Family
Tomasa is the wonderful mom, pictured in red, who opened her home and
her heart to our Guadalajara Service Learning Project. Her house is
always filled with family and friends. Here are some family members who
dropped by one afternoon. On the very right is Tomasa's daughter,
Betty, who served as one of the Student Community Helpers in the 2006
summer camp.

Tomasa's House
Here is the view looking upstairs at Tomasa's House. The family lives
upstairs. Downstairs is a wonderful dance studio - a beautiful room
with a highly-polished wooden floor, mirrors and ballet bars on the
wall, with a class schedule posted for community dance classes in
jazzercize, pilates. and ballet.
All the homes that NDNU students stay in are carefully selected by
Sister Janet, and each family is unique and wonderful!

Special Room for Guadalajara Service Learning Project Student
Toma and her family fixed up this special bed downstairs for the guest
who would be staying with them. They changed the colorful bedspread
once in a while, and made sure there was always a covered glass of
fresh water by the bed. They watched out for mosquitos and lit an
insect coil, and family members came to sit on the couch during the day
to talk about how the summer camp went, and to help cut and prepare
materials for the next day.

Special Family Events
Each family plans special food and events for their guests. Tomasa took
her special guest to a park in downtown Guadalajara to see the orchids,
the birds, the butterflies and the ducks.
This is the special bench by the water where Toma's dad brought her to
sit and talk when she was a little girl.
